LUTON DEANERY SYNOD
17 th June 2013


  • The meeting was held at St Mary, Sundon; we were welcomed by Revd. Yenda Smejkal who led us in opening worship

  • The treasurer advised that a few churches had not responded to the request for 2012 contributions. Please prompt Treasurers to check. Letters with 2013 requests to cover Deanery expenses were now going out to Treasurers. A September meeting for Treasurers is being planned – to share ideas and updates.

  • We were reminded to keep General Synod and Archbishop Welby -meeting early July to discuss the options re. women in the Episcopy - in our prayers.

  • Election of Deanery Synod reps to Wenlock C.E. Junior School governors – people with specific skills are being sought – interested parties should talk to Peter Adams or Janet Mackenzie

  • We are seeking a representative to act as Observer to the R.C. Pastoral Council Meetings – PCC’s could propose someone to be co-opted

  • Notes & news included a tribute to Ron Upton & his work as Reader in Luton and work for the Diocese; Jan Weedon licensed as Reader at St Anne w/St Christopher; Nick Walsh – new curate at St Hugh’s; Liz Hughes to become new Airport Chaplain; Mike Jones to be installed at St Mary, Luton on 2 nd July.

  • Deanery Mission Aims & Priorities – presentation by Revd Tony Sellers; aiming to document a final version of these which helps set our Agenda for the Deanery, with short-term; medium-term and longer-term goals. Discussion in groups was around what these goals and agenda items might look like, as well as those already suggested. The feedback will be presented to next Synod meeting.
