Synod 21-09-2015

LUTON DEANERY SYNOD
21st September 2015

  • The meeting was held at St Hugh’s Lewsey; Revd Janet Mackenzie welcomed us, thanking Revd Joe Pienaar and team for hosting at short notice. We welcomed Revd Sharon Smith new curate at Caddington and also Revd Martin Burrell in his now full-time role as chaplain to the Roma community. Prayers were said for the work of the Deanery and for Martin in his new role.
  • Deanery Synod members divided into groups to discuss the first draft of the Deanery Review. Seven questions were asked to help the groups tell the story of our churches and Deanery and turn the review into something which helps us plan pro-actively for the future. Many, diverse and encouraging ideas were noted and will be listed and shared back, as well as being used to add depth to the report and presentation.
  • We were pleased to accept the nomination of Dr David Dallinger as our lay member representative on the Diocesan Board of Finance.
  • General Synod election paperwork was being received by members, who were encouraged to read the election addresses and use their votes prayerfully.
  • Peter Adams thanked Clive Richardson for his many years’ service on Diocesan Synod and Bishops’ Council as Clive was standing down from those roles.
  • News included:
    • Revd Nick Grew will be licensed as vicar at St Francis on 2nd December
    • Canon Philip McDonagh who has been our link with General Synod for many years is recovering slowly from his recent stroke.
    • Please hold them both in your prayers.
  • Luton peace walk will be around the Lewsey area this Saturday 26th September; start St Dominic Square 2.30pm. Please join in.
